Lagom Adventures - Bucket List

Lagom Adventures - Bucket List

Itโ€™s been over ten years ago, but I created a โ€œ100 Things to Do Before You Die List.โ€ This was just before the movie The Bucket List was released so my title wasnโ€™t as catchy. This wasnโ€™t my own unique idea. I had read somewhere at the time that to start writing these ideas down so that you would have a concrete list of goals in front of you. A list that you could physically check items off of when complete.ย At the time I was around 32 or so and I knew there would be things in the future that I wanted to add to my list, so I originally just had about 60 or 70 items. As I was making this list, I wanted to make it somewhat realistic and then some of those โ€œOnce In A Lifetimeโ€ events. I knew listing 100 different places to travel to was unrealistic because financially I just didnโ€™t see that happening. (Iโ€™m a realist.) I also wasnโ€™t going to be listing skydiving because I am not fond of heights and have absolutely no desire to jump out of a plane unless it involves choosing between life or death.

So I set out writing my list and started adding average or everyday things that I wanted to do but just hadnโ€™t. This physical list was going to motivate me to live a more active life. I was going to work on completing my entries and adding more. I was going to become an active participant in my own life.

Looking back now, I realize that this is the same philosophy of Lagom Adventures. Leading that active life and celebrating the โ€œjust rightโ€ accomplishments. I was Lagom before I knew what Lagom was.

So we have decided on the 10th of every month, we are going to share 10 items from our โ€œBucketโ€ Lists – the everyday adventures and the big ones. Some we may have already checked off and others we will be working towards. As we said in โ€œWhy Are We Doing This,โ€ we arenโ€™t here to brag or say look at us, but here to share our ideas with you and in return for you to share your ideas with us.

As we are sharing our 10 entries with you, we would love for you to share 10 with us and maybe we will be inspired to try things we had never considered. And can celebrate the accomplishments together.

*These are in no order of importance. Just random.*

Caroline’s List

  1. See and experience Paris – Iโ€™m sure at one point I will add more specifics to this entry. I took four years of high school French and 12 hours of college French. I need to see Paris. I need to eat French pastries. (My backup plan is the Eiffel Tower in Vegas.)
  2. โœ”๏ธEat sushi – Thanks to Shogunโ€™s, Taste of St. Louis, and my friend Katie I can say I have done this. Although I think I would like to eat it in a more authentic setting but for now it is done.
  3. Ride a snowmobile – I think I would like to clarify that needs to be done in the proper setting like Colorado or Canada. Someplace that makes me think snow, winter, cold, and fun. But I wonโ€™t discriminate if the opportunity arises.
  4. โœ”๏ธOwn a high thread count of sheets – I can check this all my list. One Christmas I ordered a set off Overstock.com for myself. I canโ€™t remember the specific number off the top of my head but I am thinking they were 800, They were nice. I need to order more. A few years later I decided my mom need a set as well. She received a personalized set for Christmas.

    I had mom’s sheets personalized.
  5. โœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธAttend a Rod Stewart Concert – I become a Rod fan after watching the MTV Unplugged Series with Ronnie Wood in 1994. I even owned the CASSETTE at one time. I fell in love with Maggie May, Stay with Me, Hot Legs, and Sailing. (In fact Iโ€™m listening to this as I write.) I am happy to say that I can check this off my list twice. After I saw Rod the first time, I thought my dad would enjoy it (heโ€™s my concert buddy), so we went a couple years ago to see him and Santana. I would go again.

  6. See the Northern Lights – Every once in awhile I will see where our area has a chance to view them in our area. I always try but it never works. I want to see them where they belong – Alaska or Iceland – something like that will do.
  7. Learn to knit – Iโ€™m not sure I added knitting to my list before any other crafty or domestic skills but I did. I have to say that I havenโ€™t even attempted to try this yet and it isnโ€™t as appealing as it once was probably because I quilt now, but itโ€™s on the list and it shall remain
  8. Get a pedicure – This seems like a simple thing. But I HATE having my feet touched! (And it must be an inherited trait because Hunter hates it as well.) And I also have to admit that Iโ€™m thrifty or cheap or whatever you want to call it. I can think of so many other things I would want to spend my money on before a pedicure – books and food are just a couple that come to mind. I have to admit that ten years later I have still not checked this one off the list.
  9. Go on a castle tour – I have been on several house tours and enjoy them but I want a castle. I am a huge historical fiction reader, so I want one of those middle aged castles that contain the history of the world. England, Ireland, Scotland, France – any of those places will do. I just want to experience first hand what I have read about for years. (In the meantime, I have been watching Secrets of Great British Castles on Netflix. It will suffice for the time.)
  10. Visit a working ranch – I added this to my list when Hunter and Kenzie were younger because I thought it would be something they would enjoy at the time. I love to read and see how other people live, so I think this will satisfy the need to experience what the cowboy life may have been like.

Katie’s List

1. Going morel hunting in a place that I actually find a lot of mushrooms!! My dad had a hot spot he used to take us which may or may not have been private property. But ever since heโ€™s gotten older and canโ€™t get around as well, he no longer can take us and I just canโ€™t get myself to go without him. So if anyone knows of such a place and they donโ€™t mind sharingโ€ฆhit me up!
2. Crochet! I like the idea of being able to crochet something larger than a hot pad! Iโ€™ve purchased a kit to teach myself and did get through the very basics. But not beyond that. I need more than a picture book to assist me.
3. Grow my own garden! I love the idea of growing my own food and I have the perfect placeโ€ฆmy family farm. But now itโ€™s just down to convincing my mom that I have the time!
4. Canning! This goes a long with growing my own food. And I happen to have a great friend who I hike with and blog with that knows how!! ๐Ÿ˜‰
5. Visit a lavender farm in full bloom! Iโ€™ve seen picturesโ€ฆ.it looks gorgeousโ€ฆ.and I bet it smells pretty good too!!
6. Visit all 50 states! Since about 6th grade Iโ€™ve driven to or through 47 states while on family road trips (which I will share with you at some point). But I still need to get to the two obvious ones; Hawaii and Alaska. And finally Louisiana (Iโ€™m not sure how it was missed).
7. Go to one last NASCAR race before Dale Jr retires. I better get on this one!!
And now time for a few really big onesโ€ฆ
8. Hike to the top of Pikes Peak. Colorado holds a place near and dear to my heart. Especially Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak. Iโ€™ve been to the top via the cog train, but itโ€™s time to hike that sucker!!
9. Greece!! Iโ€™ve always loved reading Greek mythologies and learning about the gods and goddesses. Greece has always been high on my bucket list.
10. Conquer my fear of heights so that I can complete Angelโ€™s Landing Trail at Mt Zion!! Just thinking about it right now gives me anxiety. Ahhhh!!

Now we would like to invite you to share a few or even 10 of your Bucket List items, so we can maybe add a few new ones to our list.
