Why Are We Doing This?
Good question.
Initially Kate had tossed around the idea of starting a blog.
Katie’s Thoughts
As I continued to explore more trails in our area and posting them to social media, I had more and more Facebook friends inquire about where certain trails were and their difficulty. I would even have friends and acquaintances stop me at baseball games, work, and good ole Wal-Mart, where you run into everybody you know, asking about some of my latest โadventuresโ and what my future plans were. Then usually within the next week, many of those friends were posting their own pictures from those same trails. I donโt want to take credit for leading any of my friends to certain trails, but I did get the sense that I had something going on that could possibly lead to something special.
All these interactions motivated me to want to seek out more trails to explore and share with others. It also caused me to continue to push the limits of my hiking abilities. A three mile hike no longer seemed long enough!! So next, it was a three mile hike with my two year old, Oakley, on my back, then a 7 miler once again with Oakley, and finally a 13 mile hiking race!!! (The last without Oakley or I really would have needed to be rescued via helicopter.) Before I knew it, I had set some pretty lofty goals, which I hope to disclose in future posts.
Finally, it just dawned on me that I should be sharing my experiences in a more official capacity than just Facebook. I feel like I have something to offer others. Even though I love reading and watching television shows about all the extreme backpacking, trail running, kayaking, biking and mountain climbing expeditions others from around the world complete, I never saw anything about the adventures of the โEveryday Joeโ….or โJaneโ in this case. Caroline and I want to be those people to inspire the busy โsoccer moms,โ โgirls next door,โ โworkaholic, career people,โ etc. to discover the adventures out there right for them. Adventures donโt have to be extravagant, but something a little less ordinary and a little more extraordinary than the lives we lead everyday!
Caroline’s Thoughts
On one of our hikes we were discussing the idea. I mentioned how years ago I had attempted to start a free blog, but it was a lot of work at the time (and still is). I also wasn’t completely comfortable putting myself out there (and still have some reservations).
The more we discussed the possibilities, the more I thought I may be able to add to the idea. We do a lot of โadventuresโ -or so we call them- together, so that was one reason why working together made sense. Another reason was that with two people the responsibility is shared. Finally, we wanted to share how we fit in these everyday adventures; yet we are at two different points in our lives.
My son Hunter is a senior this year and I have found that new โfree timeโ that comes with teenagers driving and building their own independence, while Katie has three boys with the youngest being two and the oldest 12. She is in the busy, kids-are-involved-in-everything stage of life. We thought we had two different viewpoints to offer – same goal, but different circumstances.
We aren’t here to boast or flaunt โlook what we are doing- we are so great.โ But we have found and continue to try to make the most out of everyday. We want to participate in whatever life has to offer; no matter how average it may seem.
We want to share our โjust rightโ adventures with you in hopes of inspiring you to become active participants in your own lives. And in return, we want you to share your Lagom Adventures with us.

My husband and I love to go on adventures, he works most weekends so it’s not often we get too๐
Thanks for sharing, I enjoy hearing about your adventures and if it’s something we might enjoy then off we will go.
Thanks! We are always looking for new adventures so if you find something worth sharing let us know.
