THE AUTHENTIC, THE UNFORTUNATE, AND THE UNSIGHTLY – VOLUME 4

Lagom Adventures - The Authentic

We are real people not trying to glam things up when we share here on the blog. If we were hosting a fashion blog, we would be showcasing perfect hair and makeup while sporting trendsetting wardrobes. If we were hosting a home decorating blog, we would share pictures of our magazine layout worthy homes. But that’s not who we are.

We are sharing those big and small – those Lagom Adventures- and a few of our thoughts along the way. They aren’t staged or prepped or glamorous at times.  Sometimes we roll out of bed fifteen minutes before we are suppose to leave to meet up. Sometimes we do clean up and have a nice dinner out evening but we are still pretty normal when it comes to that.

And it when it comes to photographing or documenting those adventures, we end up with real life photos – authentic, unfortunate, and unsightly photos or outtakes. As my friend Gina would say WYSIWYG -What You See Is What You Get – photos.

Now we may take a few just to get one that is reasonably decent enough to share but being the down-to-earth, authentic, and honest girls that we are, we have decided to occasionally share a few of the other photos.

  1.  It wouldn’t be an Authentic post without one of these group selfies that we didn’t get quite right the first time.  Searia seems to know what it is going on.  Darlene isn’t quite right ready.  Katie is trying to find the right pose for her and Oakley.  And well, Oakley wasn’t feeling very photogenic at all.  I chose this particular one in honor of our Black Friday #optoutside hike that is coming up.  We will be hiking Mina Sauk Falls!

2.  Okay Katie is going to kill me but I had to do this.  This was on our way to the goat trail.  We had to climb through this hole to get there.  On the way back we found a bit of a detour, but passing through this hole seemed to be the popular path with most hikers.  We were afraid we might experience a “Winnie Pooh” the moment and get stuck in the hole while chasing after some honey.  I am happy to report that all three of us passed through the hole without incident.  Moaning and groaning and little cussing, but no serious problems.

3.  If I am going to show Katie’s backside then I will be fair and show mine as well.  It isn’t very often that I am in the lead on a trail.  I usually stay behind and take the pictures.  But somehow I was in the lead.  And Katie found this the perfect moment to take this picture of my less than perfect hiking form.  It may not be the perfect form, but I was able to go over those slippery rocks without falling, so it works.

I would like to note at this point that I do have a picture of Darlene Weber passing through the hole on goat trail, but she is safe for the moment.

4.  This isn’t a horrible picture of Katie, although I know she doesn’t like it.  It is a bit blurry but it was sort of an “action” photo.  Katie was in the lead and holding the “web beating” stick.  This was on the Silver Mine Trail in the summer and it was covered with cobwebs.  When I look at this picture I see the cranky old woman Maxine.  You know the one with the dark glasses, house coat, and cranky attitude from the greeting cards.  I think its the dark glasses and the fact that Katie is looking directly at me while holding the stick like she is ready to let me have it that says Maxine to me.

5.  This lovely gem of a picture is what happens when you take a picture not knowing the camera is on reverse.  You think you are taking a picture of what is in front of you, but instead you end up with a selfie of the mean-homeless-hiker-looking woman.  It does remind me a bit of those photos or memes where the horse or cow’s head photobombs a perfectly good picture. It’s not pretty.  Life isn’t always pretty and we are here to share all of it.

So there you have it, have a good laugh at our own expense.

And don’t forget if you have missed any of these previous Authentic pictures here.
