Bucket List – Round 2

By carolinekatie

It’s Bucket List time!! Just like the previous month, Caroline and I are going to share 10 of our “Bucket List” items with you. Even though some of these items may seem a little extreme for a “Lagom” lifestyle, I hope to continue to expand my adventuring horizons and take new chances in time. That being said, most of these items I feel are pretty doable for just about anybody.

Let’s start off with a bang, shall we:

  1. With the recent weather events of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma effecting (or soon to be) our country, it made me realize just how powerful and magnificent (but sometimes damaging) our planet can be. So like the weather reporters during these phenomenons, I would like to experience SMALL hurricane force winds. Not the extremely dangerous and devastating Category 4 or 5 hurricanes, but just the little ones.
  2. Deep Sea Fishing. I’ve always enjoyed fishing, but have never fished on anything as big as the ocean or for fish of great size. If I can make it on the boat to the fishing grounds without getting seasick, I would like to catch a big ol’ marlin…or TUNA FISH! I love the show Wicked Tuna.
  3. Eat at all of the restaurants in my state, Missouri, that have been featured on a Food Network Show! And lucky you, I’m going to include the ones I’ve been to and would highly recommend!
  • Iron Barley
  • Anthonino’s Taverna
  • Blueberry Hill
  • Espinos
  • Salt and Smoke
  • The Blue Owl
  • Stacked
  • Sugarfire

4. While doing research for my trip to Virginia, I of course looked up some hiking trails. On my Pinterest search, I found the 3 hikes you must do in Virginia: Dragon’s Tooth, Tinker Cliffs, and McAfee Knob! And they are all very close together! However, due to time restraints, I’m going to have to put it on my bucket list.

5. Mini vacation to Chicago to just explore and eat good food. But I want to ride the train from St. Louis to get there.

6. The Hollywood Sign Hike! I mean there’s not many more iconic symbols than the Hollywood Sign!

7. Walk behind a waterfall. Preferably a big one!

8.  Camp on the beach. I’ve got plans in the works to do this, but we’ll see.

9. Ride in a hot air balloon. Yes, I’m afraid of heights, but this would just be one more step of conquering my fears.

10. Throw a dart at a map and immediately travel wherever it lands!

Caroline here – I am adding a few new ones to my list and sharing some from my original list from years ago.

  1. Lagom Adventures - Solar Eclipse
2017 Solar Eclipse atop of Hughes Mountain

✔️View an eclipse – On the first Bucket List edition, I added to see the Northern Lights. This was just before the local eclipse here, so I thought I needed to add it to my list. I will say that before the eclipse, I didn’t get all the hoopla. I wouldn’t have driven very far let alone hundreds of miles to see an eclipse. But after experiencing one (I say experience because that’s what it was -more than seeing it), I now understand why people would make the trek. It was a once in a lifetime experience on top of that mountain.

  2. ✔️Order coffee at a Starbucks – This was on my original list before Starbucks could be found in the St. Louis Area. Adding to the absurdity of this choice, I didn’t even like coffee. I now enjoy a daily cup and have ordered from Starbucks. Not very often though because the cheapskate in me hates to pay their prices.
  3. Attend a Chicago Bears game at Soldier’s Field in the cold – I would probably say the ultimate football game in the cold would be at Lambeau field, but like I discussed in a recent blog getting tickets to a game there isn’t easy. So another comparative choice and almost as historical would be a Bears game. I can remember the SuperBowl Shuffle video and the bad dancing of Jim McMahon. And who didn’t love The Refrigerator Perry? One of my pet peeves is football played indoors. I think it should be played in the elements and that includes the frigid cold and snow. So that being said, a game at Soldier’s field made my original list.
  4. Deep Sea Fishing – This was on my original list and like Katie I will have to deal with the sea sickness. I like to fish and do it occasionally. Nothing like Hunter’s love for fishing. I have fished in a few different states but never deep sea fishing.
  5. Stay in a bed and breakfast – Throughout all my travels as a child and adulthood, I have stayed in a variety of establishments with some being thoroughly shady and even hourly. But somehow the bed and breakfast has eluded me. Probably because I haven’t taken many couple adult vacations.
  6. ✔️
    Lagom Adventures - Renaissance Faire
    Renaissance Faire in Wentzville

Go to a Renaissance Faire – On my original list because I have always loved learning about history and specifically how people lived. I am also a huge historical fiction fan specifically the knights, castles, and the “too early for her time” – independent lady. So I was eager to attend the Faire in Wentzville which I will share in a blog later this week.

  7. Own a dishwasher – This probably seems like a pretty trivial thing to add to a bucket list, but in my entire adult life I have a dishwasher for about a total of two years. At the time of the original list, I hadn’t had one at all. I am sorry to say that at this point in my life, I don’t have a dishwasher. I can only imagine how much more cooking I could accomplish if I didn’t have to wash dishes by hand.
  8. Vacation in Alaska – Again this was on my original list. At one time I entertained the idea of teaching there six months out of the year but it just wasn’t feasible. Someday I will get there. Aaron just had the vacation of a lifetime without me to Alaska. He will be sharing those soon in a blog. I was/ am jealous.
  9. Hike all the trails in the 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles of St. Louis – Because I like a challenge and a list, I want to check all these hikes off my list. I have started highlighting the completed ones and am ready to mark the entire book up and move on to another one.
  10. Chicago Trip – Along with Katie I would like to explore Chicago. I have been to Chicago – at least the Southside for a White Sox game – just a day stop – but haven’t been to downtown. I’m not sure why. I think partly because Hunter and I take a lot of trips with just the two of us and I’m not sure if I was ready to tackle this city by ourselves.

So there you have it – this month’s edition of our Bucket List. Feel free to add your own ideas.
