The Authentic, The Unfortunate, and The Unsightly – Volume 1
Katie posted her picture this morning of trying to get the whole family including the dog into one selfie shot. Easier said than done.
We are real people not trying to glam things up when we share here on the blog. If we were hosting a fashion blog, we would be showcasing perfect hair and makeup while sporting trendsetting wardrobes. If we were hosting a home decorating blog, we would share pictures of our magazine layout worthy homes. But that’s not who we are.
We are sharing those big and small – those Lagom Adventures- and a few of our thoughts along the way. They aren’t staged or prepped or glamorous at times. Sometimes we roll out of bed fifteen minutes before we are suppose to leave to meet up. Sometimes we do clean up and have a nice dinner out evening but we are still pretty normal when it comes to that.
And it when it comes to photographing or documenting those adventures, we end up with real life photos – authentic, unfortunate, and unsightly photos or outtakes. As my friend Gina would say WYSIWYG -What You See Is What You Get – photos.
Now we may take a few just to get one that is reasonably decent enough to share but being the down-to-earth, authentic, and honest girls that we are, we have decided to occasionally share a few of the other photos.
Who doesn’t enjoy a well meant chuckle at the expense of their friends?
1. Might as well start with Katie’s family photo from today. I was immediately drawn to Katie’s pure joy at the attempt to take this picture. The boys are carefully posed in the back to include them. But wait there’s one missing, where’s Oakley? After further review he appears to be directly behind Enrique’s head. Lol. And the dog! This picture works because of Yukon. I’m sure that isn’t what he envisioned for the family hike!
2. 99% of the time I am taking the pictures. That’s what I enjoy. What I like to do. The selfies are a work in progress. For some weird reason I only like to include half of my face. I don’t know why but it’s becoming my thing. In the majority of those selfies, I am looking at the camera asking, “Are we in the picture? I can’t see anything.” That would be the look in the particular photo. I usually try to have my sunglasses on to hide this look.
3. This is the night that we actually physically got together and set up the blog. We had been talking and planning for weeks, but this is the night that we sat down and did it. I was going to take pictures and document along the way but this was the about it. It was the day after our big Indiana adventure, so we were worn out. I also think Oakley was running around the house naked while the other two boys tried to wrangle him in. It was a glamorous evening as you can see.
4. This picture is from our actual Indiana hiking trip. It was at the end of day one our first 10 miles and we were heading up yet another set of stairs. I wanted to document how energetic and alive I felt after an invigorating day of hiking. I think this pretty much sums it up. It may appear like more of a plea for help now that I look at it.
5. Sometimes the dog is the only who can get it right. This was an early spring hike. We don’t look horrible although Katie looks a little frightened. We had just been talking about those people who die while taking selfies. Needless to say the dog wins the most put together prize in this photo.
At times in our social lives we only want to present the polished parts of our lives. In reality we all have the not-so-glamorous aspects to us and we might as well learn to embrace all of ourselves, so we figured if we were going to share our adventures with you then we needed to share ALL of the adventure -the authentic, the unfortunate, and the unsightly.

I’m so glad that I’ve made a fool of myself so many times, that it doesn’t even bother me to share these not so attractive faces I often make. LOL. I’m so glad we are sharing these! I literally LOL’d until tears were running down my eyes! Some of these I had seen but forgotten and a few of you I hadn’t seen before. Classic!! I’m sure we will have many more of these in the future!
Keep them coming…. they are a hoot!
I’m sure we won’t run out of embarrassing photos.
