The “Lindsey Ann” Bucket List or The Sister Bucket List

Lagom Adventures - The Sister Bucket List

This month we are going to do something a little different with our bucket list.  I came across a Pinterest post titled “The Ultimate Bucket list for Sisters” which caught my attention.  Out of curiosity I read it and realized that many of the items on the list I’ve already done with my sisters (I have 3).  But there’s still plenty I need to do with them.  Some of these items are kind of “everyday” things, but other items could lead to amazing adventures! So this month we are going to share this special bucket list with you in hopes that if you have a sister (or someone who is like a sister) you will share some adventures with them.  They do not have to be the items on this list, but hopefully this will inspire you to cherish those moments with your sister(s).

Caroline here – After initially glancing at the sister bucket list, there are not many items that my Lindsey and I have done with it being just us.  I would say that I am a little bit of disadvantage with Katie because she has more sisters than I do, and my Lindsey and I are 7 1/2 years apart, so we didn’t have those growing up together experiences.  That being said we could take the time to do some of these items now.

Also, as has become tradition, we have asked a special guest, in this case two special guests, to share their personal bucket list items.  It just so happens that Caroline and I both have little sisters named “Lindsey Ann,” whose names are even spelled the same.  Thus, we are titling this post, “The Lindsey Ann Bucketlist.”

First, The Ultimate Bucket List for Sisters:

  • Go on a road trip:  Katie – I’ve actually had the pleasure of going on several road trips with my sisters over the years.  Actually every road trip I’ve been on involved at least one of my sisters if not more than one.  The last road trip I went on was with my oldest sister Jackie to Richmond for a NASCAR race!  You can read about it here.  I’ve actually driven all across this country with my sisters and I hope to continue that tradition.  Caroline: I don’t think Lindsey and I have ever gone on a road trip with just the two of us, but she has gone with me on one to help me with the kids.

  • Hunt for antiques at a flea market:  Katie – I love looking for fun, quirky antiques for my home decor and I’ve actually gone to several of these antique malls and flea markets with my sister Brooke, looking for anything of interest.  I’d like to go up to the city and check out some of the bigger flea markets/antique malls some time. Caroline: Again we haven’t specifically set out together to look for antiques, but we have tagged along with our mom several times.

Here’s Brooke!! She always says she never gets pics because she’s the youngest. She’s right! Lol
  • Get manicures:  Katie – I’ve done this more times than I can count.  Getting manis/pedis is a favorite way to relax for me and I often have at least one of my sisters with me.  Usually Lindsey.  Caroline: This one may be a bit difficult for me to do because I don’t get manicures.  Just not really my thing.  Now Lindsey does occasionally, so I guess I could tag along sometime in the spirit of the bucket list.
  • Take a cooking class:  Katie – I would love to do this.  Of all my sisters (well…except maybe Jackie) I probably am the most comfortable in the kitchen, not that they can’t cook, I just do it a lot more.  I think this would be fun.  Lindsey’s cooking is actually kind of a running joke in our family, and not that she can’t cook, she just had this corn chowder/creamed corn episode that we won’t let her live down! Caroline: I have done this individually, but never with someone.  The Kitchen Conservatory offers a multitude of classes that I would like to take, so maybe I could find one that interests both of us.
  • Gamble at a casino:  Katie – Going to a casino and losing money is not my favorite thing to do, but I have done this before.  Mostly with my little sisters Brooke and Lindsey.  Caroline: I agree with Katie that this isn’t my favorite thing to do.  Lindsey and I have both done this separately, but we could find a time to do this together.
  • Make an album of your favorite photos together:  Katie – I love this idea!  I have a lot of great photos of us from over the years, but it would be nice to collect them and organize them all together. Caroline:  Just a few years ago when I had the time and space, I was a big scrapbooker and made several albums.  I still have all my supplies, but just don’t have the room to keep that out and ready to use.  Maybe I will organize some supplies and we could make an album together as a gift.
  • Go on a major shopping spree:  Katie – Shopping isn’t our favorite thing to do and I’m not sure how much money has to be spent to be considered a “major shopping spree,” but I have gone on enough shopping trips with my sisters and spent way more money than I should have.  Caroline:  The thought of a major shopping spree scares me. lol I am so not a shopper, and a major one feels overwhelming.  We have been shopping several times with our mom, who is a major shopper, but not sure if Lindsey and I have ever done this just the two of us.
  • Attend a weekend music festival:  Katie– We love concerts, but I can’t recall ever having really gone to an actual “music festival.”  So this will need to be explored more for sure.  Caroline:  We have been to concerts and events together.   (One birthday around the age of 10 or so, I took her and Leigh Ragsdale to a WWF event – “Nasty Boys Suck!“)  And she has gone to a Toby Keith concert with me to help with the kids, where she ended up backstage and left me alone in the lawn seats with Kenzie and Hunter. True story!  I have been to Farm Aid but not with Lindsey, so I would say this one is halfway completed.
  • Have a girls’ night out:  Katie– Yup, done this! Caroline: – I would say my 40th birthday would count as this one.  A few of my goods friends, dinner, and a tattoo!

  • Give each other makeovers:  Katie– Nope, not done this!  I’ve never been a “girly, girl” so this would probably be very entertaining to see what I came up with! Caroline: We haven’t given each other makeovers, but I have done the whole “dress up the little girls in prom dress” thing. On a few occasions, Lindsey and her friends would try on my prom dresses, and I would do their hair and makeup.

  • Bake a dessert:  Katie – If making the cake/cupcakes for our sister’s wedding counts, then Lindsey and I have done it! Caroline: We both bake but don’t remember doing this as adults together.  I am sure when we were younger she helped me at home.
  • Buy a stack of magazines and read them together:  Katie – Never really done this and I’m not sure what types of magazines we would pick to be honest. Caroline: We haven’t bought a stack together but we have sat my mom’s or my Aunt Opal’s and read magazines together.
  • Go camping: Katie – We’ve been camping together since we were babies, but most recently we have started camping together at Council Bluffs Lake every year on Memorial Day weekend for the past 5 or 6 years.  We always have a good time. Caroline:  Back in the day, my parents took us camping quite often.  Have we camped together as adults with just us. No.
  • Build a fort out of blankets and have a sleepover:  Katie – Well, we’ve done this as kids.  Who hasn’t??  I’m not sure that I’m that interested in doing it as adults unless our kids are involved.  Floors are hard on my back!  Caroline: We used to build forts and sleep on my grandma’s feather bed.  When I was in college and she was about 12, she came and spent a few days with me in my apartment.  So this has been done separately, but not really together.
  • Go on a pub crawl:  Katie– Never done. Caroline: Haven’t done it and don’t really have any desire to do it.
  • Host a party together:  Katie – We’ve gotten pretty good at doing this actually!  The last few years we’ve hosted a Christmas party with some coworkers with some pretty awesome themes!  This year our party had a clue theme.  Last year it was the “Hot Tub Time Machine” party where we all had to dress the way we would have been dressed in 1987!  Caroline: Can’t say that we have every hosted a party together.
  • Indulge in a spa day:  Katie – Need to do. Caroline: Spa day is on my own actual bucket list, so I guess I could include Lindsey.
  • Prank call someone:  Katie – Ugh!!  Lindsey and a friend have actually done this to me!  They got me good!! Caroline: She did this to me when she was little and as an adult.  We have never done this together to someone else.
  • Play a drinking game:  Katie – Yes, unfortunately, we have back in the day.  Caroline: Nope.
  • Try out a risky fashion trend together:  Katie – Well there was this one time when I talked Lindsey into these purple tight things… Caroline: At the time it wasn’t risky, but we did both have those 80’s bangs.
  • Choreograph a dance routine:  Katie– Despite many years in dance as children, we’ve never been known for our dancing skills.  This would be interesting. Caroline: I took dance for 10 years.  Lindsey was asked to find a different interest.  We do both like to dance, but I don’t see a choreographed routine happening.  Although if we could include my dad then that may happen.
  • Go wine tasting:  Katie – We actually live near one of the most popular areas for visiting wineries in Missouri!  We usually take several trips to taste wines throughout the year. Caroline: Again, we have both done this separately but not together. I’m not a huge winery fan, so this isn’t high on my priority list.
  • Read the same book:  Katie – I actually read a lot, my sisters not so much.  But there was this one time that Lindsey and I both joined a book club at school and read a book together.  Lindsey enjoyed it so much that she still reads it!  It was called “Queen of the Road:  The True Tale of 47 States, 22,000 Miles, 200 Shoes, 2 Cats, 1 Poodle, a Husband, and a Bus with a Will of Its Own.”  Now that I mention it, considering my new found interests, I may need to reread it as well. Caroline: I am a huge reader.  Lindsey not so much, but if she found a book she wanted to read I would be game.  We have been to a book signing together – a cook book signing.  And I suppose we have both read that.

  • Have a Disney movie marathon:  Katie – We love Disney movies!!  But we probably haven’t had a “marathon” since we were children.  This would be a good idea on a snow day from school! Caroline: We used to own quite a few Disney movies, so I am sure when we were younger we watched several together.

  • Take a great photo together:  Katie – Are you kidding me?  We always take great photos together! Caroline: It happens on occasion.

  • Make a pizza:  Katie – Need to do! Caroline: We used to make homemade pizza when we were kids, but it may be interesting to try something new as adults.
  • Cherish your awesome relationship every day:  Katie – Done! Caroline: Done!
